ManualCOAMSDSSIGLEC6, a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and SIGLEC family of sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectins, is abundantly expressed in placental cytotrophoblasts and syncytiotrophoblasts, with weaker expression in the spleen, intestinal tissue and peripheral B-cell-dominant leukocytes. It distributes across cell membranes and extracellular spaces. Its expression rises during and after labor, putatively delaying labor progression, and is further elevated in pre-eclampsia—a human-specific disorder.
