CD38 (ADP-ribosyl cyclase 1) is an ADP-ribosyl cyclase family protein highly expressed in multiple normal tissues, lymphoma and neuroblastoma. This multifunctional ectoenzyme mediates cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR) metabolism from NAD+ to ADP-ribose, governing intracellular Ca2+ homeostasis. CD38 dysfunction causes immune and metabolic defects alongside behavioral changes. As a cell activation marker, it is associated with HIV, hematologic and solid tumors, type 2 diabetes and bone metabolism, and serves as a prognostic biomarker for leukemia.
| Synonyms | CD38, T10, cADPr hydrolase 1 |
